Result: 15th Dec Southgate Adelaide 2 Minchenden 3

Today's match was a real test.I made the wrong decision to play people out of their usual positions from the kick off rather that changing things later in the game. The opposition took advantage of this and pressed forward, resulting in a free kick on the edge of our box. The men in the wall did not hear Djan shouting for them to move across and their striker saw a gap and managed to squeeze the ball through and under Djan. We were then awarded a similar opportunity at the other end and Sam R struck a long range effort which the keeper misread and it bounced over him. Southgate Adelaide came back strongly after the break and scored to make it 2-1 and the game was end to end until Mark was fouled in the box and a penalty awarded. Sam Rodgers stepped up and placed the ball in a large hole where the penalty spot was supposed to be but because we had practiced from the same spot earlier, he knew to get under the ball and he cracked it high into the top of the net - 2-2. The last 10 minutes was great excitement and we started to press harder for the win. Eventually the ball was crossed in from the right and Ben scored a superb diving shot in the top corner.
All in all a really good effort to come back from behind. Adam

We got off to a shaky start, possibly due to the poor conditions, but also a lack of communication in the team, resulting with Tom and Liam head banging each other when they both went for the ball at the same time. But we managed to get a cross in front of their keeper and Terry ran in and got a goal. This lifted the team and we started to play much better football.

More goals from Mark and Ben, both involving good teamwork, leading up to half time and 3-0.

We continued in the second half to play excellent passing football despite the weather which just got worse. They had a few attacking moves, and on one we conceded a penalty to a dubious refereeing decision, but fortunately Djan saved it easily.
We came back quickly with Liam passing through to Tom who pushed up into their box, and crossed it back to Liam for a goal.
A final goal from Tim to make it 5-0 at the finish.

Man of the match: Dylan for excellent play on the wing, both in attack and getting back when needed to defend.

A good result but there is some bad news -- with the weather this week, and last, the catering tent has collapsed in a heap and died. So hopefully it wont be raining next week or else there will be soggy bacon rolls and hot dogs to look forward to.

Very cold conditions meant we didn't play our best. However we still had the bulk of the play and manged to score none-the-less. Also a couple of mistakes by the opposition, including an early own goal, and their failure to capitalise on our own mistakes meant we kept ahead, although they managed to get 4 goals past us.

Man of the match: Jack - for solid defending and good marking of the opposition's strongest player.

Saturday 17th Nov

As this weekends match is cancelled it would be good to get some football practice on grass. The U12 team have a casual training session on Saturday morning's at Bramley Road and any of us can join in. It will probably consist of matches, Wembley and more matches.

Note, it wont be an official match between us and them as that has anyway been arranged for the weekend of the 1st December.

So, anyone not doing an exam and who wants a bit of fun exercise, come along for 10am. It will last till 12 (or leave earlier if you need to). To give me an idea of numbers expected send an email or phone.

Christmas Quasar Party and Fixture Changes

I have booked Quasar for the 15th December at 2:40pm. There will be food after and it will take about two and a half hours. I will ask for names of those who would like to attend at training on Tuesday. The Oaks team will also be coming along. Hope you can all make it as it should be good fun.

I am asking Keith to try and postpone the next two matches. The 10th November clashes with the Enfield Schools cross country competition and we have more than 5 boys running - leaving us short. On the 17th, there are 5 boys sitting school entrance exams which, again, leaves us short. The only way to successfully postpone these games, rather than concede, is to obtain letters from the school regarding the running (Nicky will organise for Merryhills, Harry for Eversley and Tom Jacob's mum for Grange Park) As far as the exams go, can parents please let me have a copy of the correspondence confirming entrance exam date for your son. Result: St Mary's 0-10 Minchenden Youth Greens

As we kicked off we knew that this would be a game we should win, as we had beaten them 16-0 before. We got off to a good start with Sam H scoring our first goal. Then a brilliant run by Sam R who, crossed it in past the keeper to Tom R who put the ball in the back of the net. Sam H scoring another, with Tom R following up with 2 more, ending the first half. Liam started off the second half with a early goal, then Tom R shot and the opposition hand-balled it and gave away a penalty, in which Rob slotted it in to the bottom corner. Then 3 more goals were scored by Mark, Tim and Terry. The game finished off with Ben scoring a disallowed goal, as he was offside. Djan had a brilliant Match by keeping a clean sheet.

Preliminary round of matches complete

All the preliminary matches are complete. We finished 5th (out of 7). Unfortunately, for our final position, Lea Valley won last Saturday and so finished above us.

Check out all the preliminary match results and the final preliminary league table.

We've been put in the premier league for the remainder of the season, along with West Essex Colts, Lea Valley, Whitewebs and teams from the league below us. Here's the league table (empty of course) and the schedule for matches, starting 3rd Nov away to St. Mary's.

Result: 20th October 2007. Minchenden 8 - Ryan FC 2

The match started off well with Minchenden immediately looking confident. After a few short minutes the ball came to Terry in front of goal who wasted no time in slotting it home. The pressure continued to mount, with Terry continuing to thread balls through to the strikers and wingers until Dylan managed to cut the ball just past the keeper and the last man could only knock it into his own goal, whilst trying to clear the ball.

The opposition then started to pull themselves together with their best player scoring a couple of good goals in response to a further Minchenden strike from Tim. Half time 3-2 but Ryan FC getting better.

During the half time talk, Ryan was given the task of man marking the opposition's best player. This he did so well that they did not score in response to another 5 goals from Mark, Sam H, Tim and Tom got 2, one of which was a rare header!

Man of the match was Ryan.

Attendance was good but forgot to count in the rush for a cracking sausage roll!

Minchenden v Ryan F.C
Meet at 11am. Kick Off 11:30

Result: Potters Bar Crusaders Raiders 2-11 Minchenden Youth Greens

As the teams kicked off we knew the opponents weaknesses.
The first few minutes the opposition were a better team until Sam H scored a goal. We then started pulling ourselves together and Mark scored another goal for us. Potters Bar then scored from a counter attack. Next Dyl scored a tight goal and so did the opposition making it 3-2 and Robert finished off the first half with a cracker to make it 4-2 at half time.
Tom pulled out with a pulled muscle shortly after the re-start but we were strong as Rob scored 1 more goal, Mark and Sam H scoring another each as well, then almost half the team were scoring one. Robert crossed it in and Ben hand balled it into the goal which had already gone in. Then to finish the game off, Liam scored. But we weren't done quite yet as Sam R scored a set piece from the half way line.
Everybody liked this win as we had not had one for a while.

Result: 6th October away to Lea Valley: 3-3 draw

Minchenden made a good start, with Ben getting an early goal with an amazing high lob. They came back strongly and got two goals in quick succession to take lead during the first half. We hung on, and Tom got an equalizer just before half time.

After the half-time analysis from Tim, we came out and played well in second half, with most of the play in their half and plenty of attacking chances but we could not convert them into goals. With 4 minutes remaining Lea Valley took the lead, from a goal mouth scramble with some dispute over whether they fouled our goalie. We shrugged off that and with a last, determined attack, Ben ran up the right and crossed into Mark who tapped it in to get the equalizer.

Well played everyone!!
