END OF TRAINING etc

After training on the 8th July I mentioned that we may be able to squeeze in one more session before summer, but that now will not be the case due to various events- such as school productions and discos etc. Training has, therefore, ended.

Training will resume on Tuesday 2nd September back at the Hockey Club in Trent Park at 7:00pm.

Our first match will be on Sunday 7th so keep yourselves fit and healthy over the summer and I look forward to seeing you in September. Have a great summer. Adam

News: Tournament

Due to too few players coming forward to play tournaments the only one we can enter is our own Minchenden Tournament on Sunday 22nd June. I have only had a handful of forms back so I will ring around everyone within the next few days to check availability and also check if you are still o.k to play for us next season. You may have heard that we have been promoted to the top league for next season - well done everyone.

Reminder: Minchenden Tournament

If you want to be in the summer tournament you need to return the form to Adam by 30th May. The form is available here.

News: Summer Tournaments

In addition to the Minchenden Tournament I put a couple of other small sided tournaments on the blog but I have only had a handful of resonponses and not enough players to field a team.

I have just received details of another one on Saturday 5th July. It is a 6 a-side event at Firs Farm Primary School, Rayleigh Road, N13. Cost will be £5 per player. If you would like to enter, can you e-mail me to let me know on adnorton@waitrose.com

Fixture: Sat 19th April- Minchenden v West Essex Colts

Home match - Meet at 10:00am

Double header this week means it is 2 matches (each 36 minutes) so 6 points at stake!

Result: 14th April - Minchenden 2 - 1 Southgate Adelaide

Cracking match! Really great effort from all. Defensive play was particularly pleasing today because we did not allow ourselves to buckle under the pressure in the last 10 minutes. Even when they did get a shot on target, Djan pulled off an amazing save. Great goals again from Tom and Mark, made possible by great teamwork and some superb one touch football. Well done everyone.

Man of the match - Jourdan

Fixture: Tue 15th Minchenden v Southgate Adelaide

At Home - Enfield playing fields. Meet at 5:45pm! K.O 6:15

Result: 12th April - Minchenden 5 - 5 Winchmore Hill

The match started well with some good controlled football from both sides. In the 8th minute the ball came in to Mark who lobbed a controlled shot over the keepers head from 25 yards. Unfortunately, we lost concentration for a minute and that was long enough for Winchmore to score straight after the re-start. We took the lead again in the 16th minute with a well taken volley from Terry.
After half time, we came out fighting again and Ben received the ball just inside the box, turned quickly and fired in the ball 3-1. Things got even better for us just one minute later when Sam Hassan chased the ball and capitalised on a fumble from the keeper which saw the ball pop out to be slotted home. We continued to press and in the 6th minute of the second half, Mark put up a high cross from way out wide which went over the keeper, bounced, and crept in at the back post 5-1.
We were fully in control at that point but the opposition came back stong with a goal half way through the second half and were then awarded a controversial penalty with just 5 minutes to go. 5-3. Winchmore continued to throw everyone forward and found the back of the net after some missed tackles when the clock showed full time. The match was in injury time and a lapse of concentration again from us saw the opposition score immediately from the re-start just before the final whistle. How did we end up at 5-5! Great match and some fantastic performances all round. One lesson to learn is that we are often at our weakest when we have just scored or conceded a goal.

Result 5th April A.F.A cup final Minchenden 2-1 Broomfield Percival

After a big talk with Tim we went out onto the pitch knowing we were going to do well. We had a good start with Mark getting a few chances but none of them converted. We were looking the better team with more passes and using the width of the pitch, but just before the whislte blew for the fisrt half a high cross from Broomfield Percival which Djan couldn't get hold of went over him and they finished the first half with a one goal lead.
We came back more determined than before and really pushing the defense to their limits but still no goal, then a good ball from Terry in the center of the field, to Mark who took it past a defender and taking a shot he narrowly missed the post but our supporters didn't think that as they cheered with joy only later to find out that it had missed! But with little hope left a great ball from Tim set Mark who passed it to Pedros who took a shot but the keeper saved it then Tom R came charging in and fired the ball into the back of the net.

But that wasn't enough with even more enthusiasm Mark took another shot which again they keeper luckily saved but Tom R was there again and from outside the box shot the ball into the net and this time nobody could keep there excitement back as everyone cheered with delight.
As time was ticking Broomfield kept pushing. The final 10 minutes was all in our box, with plenty of corners against us and them trying their best to get a goal back but with some excellent defending by all we managed to keep our cool and win the trophy!!!!!

After all the celebrations the trophies were awarded but the guy who was presenting really mucked it up thinking we were the losing and then giving Broomfield the winning trophy!!! Luckily their captain pointed it out and we celebrated in style.
Well done everyone.

Fixtures Info

There is no match on Sat 15th Mar due to a lack of players on both teams as a result of an inter-schools tournament. This is another blow to our match schedule so, in order to get our games in before the season ends, we are going to have to play on Easter Saturday 22nd. Can you please let me know a.s.a.p if you are NOT available on that day so I can check numbers.

Please note that the AFA cup final is on the 5th April, which is the start of the school holdays. Unfortunately, I will be away (and Dylan) and will miss what should be a fantastic day. Please can you let me know if you, too, are unable to make it so I can finalise the team. The venue will be announced shortly and I understand that it is quite a large event, with teams from different age groups playing in their respective finals. I believe that the younger age groups will play in the morning but I will confirm when I am given details.

Thanks, Adam

Fixture: Sat 8th March- Friendly - Minchenden v Abbey Youth

At Home but on pitch next to our usual
Meet at 10:00am

Result: Sat 1st March AFA Cup Semi Final - Minchenden 1 Winchmore 0

Fantastic result and bring on the final!

Today we showed that we are back in form with a controlled performance all round. Defensively, we looked very solid and even when Winchmore Hill did make it through, about 15 minutes in, with a fierce, wind-assisted strike Djan was quick to react and push the ball over the crossbar. The wind continued to play a large part in the game but both sides seemed to cope reasonably well.

After the break, we started the way we ended the first half, with great enthusiasm and began to look favourites for the match. Tom was really starting to cause their defence some problems and when a well-worked move saw the ball threaded through to Tom, he managed to outpace the defenders and keep a cool head to finish with a clinical low strike.

Winchmore Hill tried to respond but our strong midfield managed to close down the play and prevent the opposition from settling on the ball. Our defenders also worked well to push out of the box when the ball was cleared thus forcing the attack away from the danger area.

Well done lads. Keep it up - ADAM

Home Game
Meet at 11:00 (Note -later than usual)

Result:2nd February Minchenden 1-1 Forty hill

We came onto the pitch, with high hopes, but it definately wasn't the game we were looking for in the end...

We started off well with Tom intercepting the ball from Forty Hills centre kick and dribbled it past 6 of there defence and slotted it past the keeper in only 21 secs!!!
With our heads high now we played some good passing football, but they had a lucky break and from the edge of the box, wacked the ball just above Djans hands.
We then suddenly started to lose concentration, and we kept giving the ball away to the opposition, which led to us having to struggle for the ball.
We had another good break which the keeper saved but fumbled with the ball as Liam kicked in the net, unfortunately the referee thought that the keeper had it! We were outraged at this awful decision.
Both teams hadn't played exceptionly well in the 1st half, and so aimed to get more possesion in the 2nd.

As Minchenden kicked off, they had some scruffy play, but were overcome by a good piece, which
was led into the box and annoyingly, Forty Hll cleared to set up their own attack, which they didn't do very well, with Djan saving it.
It was really a game of get the ball, have a chance, then lose it for us-but we kept coming.
Forty Hill had a less positive side, they had few chances, but none of them went in.
Then Mark had a run and a powerful long range shot that drifted above the bar,and over.
The pressure was mounting on us as we needed a goal to gain the lead again, and we thought we had found the answer when Tom R (again) had a neat run and was fouled in the penalty box, but that referee (AGAIN!!!) made the wrong decision, and gave a goal kick. We were standing on the pitch, mouths wide open, in disbelief.
We got more and more frustrated as we couldn't find the net. Forty Hill were relaxed, and so took the opputunity to attack.they had got a corner, which we couldn't clear and so the oppositon
had a very close range shot, which Dylan kicked out off the goaline.
As the last minute came we were begging for a goal, but Forty Hill got a corner again, but this time they had it in the final seconds: So this was it, were Minchenden going to get beaten by a team that they should've thrashed? Well, they crossed it in... we scrambled to clear it, then, again they got the ball which was in front of the goal (about 2 yards away) which they shot...BUT DYLAN CLEARED IT AGAIN! The final whistle blew, and Minchenden were lucky they hadn't lost.

Result: Saturday 5th Jan: Winchmore Hill 2 - Minchenden 3

As the match loomed nearer, we knew it was going to be a tricky. When we kicked off we played some good passing football. We also had some good chances but we couldn't finish them.
As we came off for the interval, we had a team talk from Tim and went onto the pitch feeling confident about the rest of the game. After a few minutes in the second half, the opposition had a lucky break, with their incredible Hulk guy(who for some reason wasn't green) steamed past the defense and finished it from a tight angle. With fifteen minutes to go the pressure was mounting on us as Mark had a disallowed goal. Luckily a few minutes later a dangerous challenge gave us a penalty which Sam R finished with style. With raised hopes, we were determined to win this game but Winchmore Hill got another shot on goal which Djan could not reach as it rolled past the line. It was now 2-1 with not many minutes remaining but a through ball executed by Dylan to Sam H who then took it past a deffender and placed it in the back of the net. Spirits were now being raised and the team of plundering purples hit the ground in frustration. To make it even worse with only two minutes left, Mark recieved the ball and slotted it past the keeper and into the net, and then Minchenden strided back to their positions and played on until the final whistle, and so we celbrated, alongside with Lucas (Dylans brother) who shouted losers at Winchmore Hill.
